Global LNG and Gas Market Outlook

An analysis of global LNG supply and demand dynamics, pricing trends, and the role of natural gas in the energy transition. We examine key developments across producing and consuming markets.

Energy Markets and Infrastructure28 February 20268 min read

The global LNG market continues to undergo significant transformation as new supply projects come online and demand patterns shift across key consuming regions. With over 150 million tonnes per annum of new liquefaction capacity under construction or in advanced development, the supply landscape is set to evolve materially over the coming decade.

In Europe, the pivot away from Russian pipeline gas has accelerated import of LNG infrastructure development and long-term contracting. Asian markets, particularly in South and Southeast Asia, are emerging as key growth centres for LNG demand, driven by industrialisation, power generation needs, and coal-to-gas switching policies.

Pricing dynamics remain a central consideration for both buyers and sellers. The interplay between oil-indexed contracts and hub-based pricing continues to evolve, with increasing volumes now linked to Henry Hub and TTF benchmarks. Destination-flexible cargoes and portfolio players are adding liquidity and complexity to the market.

For producing nations across Africa and the Middle East, the current market environment presents opportunities to develop stranded gas reserves and monetise associated gas through LNG export projects. However, project economics remain sensitive to capital costs, regulatory frameworks, and the availability of long-term offtake agreements.

Thomas & Alexander Advisory provides strategic guidance across the LNG value chain, from upstream development and commercial structuring through to offtake negotiation and investor engagement. Our team brings direct experience in gas-to-power projects, floating LNG, and integrated energy infrastructure across emerging markets.
